National Substance Misuse Strategy Steering Group: Launch of report

Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer and Chairman of the National Substance Misuse Strategy Steering Group launched the Report of the Group on Tuesday the 7th February, 2012.  The focus of the Steering Group was on alcohol and it was charged with identifying actions that could be used to deal with the harms caused by alcohol use and misuse.

HIV and AIDS: An Overview for Counsellors

A one day workshop for professional counsellors, therapists, and other mental health workers. The workshop introduces key aspects of working with clients who are living with HIV or AIDS, as well as their friends/partners/families and introduces best practice guidelines for professionals working in this area.

Training will be from 10:00am till 4:30pm, Tuesday 13th March 2012

Do you love music? Chrysalis Community Drug Project are looking for people who have links with their service or other local drug services who are
  • Interested in expressing themselves through music
  • Highly motivated
  • Can commit to a 6 month weekly music programme
  • Want to gain experience in singing and performing or learn an instrument
1.       Instrument learning –  violin or guitar (February to August)
 
2.       Performing singing, rapping, song writing and music appreciation (May to September)

The Ireland Funds’ 2012 Small Grants Opens for Applications

Applications are now being sought for The Ireland Funds 2012 Small Grants Round. The objective is to fund new and innovative responses to social need. The Worldwide Ireland Funds accept applications for projects in the following areas:

■ Investing in Ireland’s Communities
■ Supporting a Shared Future for Northern Ireland
■ Providing Access to Education
■ Promoting Culture and Heritage
■ Assisting Disadvantaged Youth
■ Assisting the Elderly "Forgotten Irish"
■ Promoting Philanthropy in Ireland.

Applications must be submitted online and must be received by 5pm on 30 March.

St Stephens Green Trust - General Grant Scheme

St Stephens Green Trust has opened its 2012 General Grant Scheme.  There is one grants meeting in 2012 and the deadline for receipt of applications is Thursday, 23rd February, 2012. Successful grantees will receive their grants in April.
General Grant Scheme - Programme Areas 2012:  Grants will be made to organisations working in 3 specific areas.  They are homelessness, prisoners / ex-prisoners and Travellers.  Please note the Trust is not accepting applications from organisations with income of more than €500,000 in 2012.

The Old Triangle
A celebration for the benefit of the Irish Penal Reform Trust

Sunday, 26th February 2012 at 8pm
Abbey Theatre, Dublin 1

A celebration of music and words for the benefit of the Irish Penal Reform Trust, The Old Triangle seeks to raise awareness of the need for penal reform and the place of prison and prisoners in society. Many of the artists taking part in this celebration have worked in prisons, and we are mindful of the important role the arts and artists have to play in the life of our prisons. We are also delighted to announce that President Higgins will attend the event as our special guest of honour.
